Why a YouTuber’s Dramatic Weight Loss Took the Internet by Storm

“Imagine fooling the entire internet for years—making them think you’re stuck in one place while secretly working on a major transformation behind the scenes. That’s exactly what Nikocado Avocado did, and honestly, we’re shook.”

Nikocado Avocado, aka Nicholas Perry, is known for his over-the-top mukbang videos where he eats insane amounts of food. He built a huge audience watching him dive into massive portions, but what they didn’t know? He was secretly losing 250 pounds behind the scenes, while the internet kept assuming he was just spiraling deeper into unhealthy habits.

On Friday, Perry, 32, dropped a video that shocked his millions of followers. Titled “Two Steps Ahead,” it wasn’t just another mukbang. It was a huge reveal—he showed up looking drastically slimmer, a total contrast to what viewers had seen in his recent uploads. And naturally, the internet lost its mind.

The Longest Play Ever

“I woke up from a very long dream, and I also woke up having lost 250 pounds off of my body,” Perry said in his latest video. “And just yesterday, people were calling me fat and sick and boring and irrelevant.”

The video racked up 26 million views over the weekend. People couldn’t wrap their heads around how he pulled off such extreme weight loss so quickly. His most recent videos, where he looked much heavier, hadn’t shown any hint of his transformation.

But Perry wasn’t playing around. In an email, he explained how he managed to keep his weight loss journey hidden for two whole years. He admitted that he had been posting pre-recorded content on both YouTube and TikTok, videos that were carefully edited to seem current. While everyone was busy watching old footage of him binge-eating, Perry was behind the scenes working on his body and health.

How He Kept It Hidden

“I edited the videos so that they would appear recent, allowing me to focus on healing my body behind the scenes,” he said. His most genius move? Shaving his head so people wouldn’t recognize him in public. And he wasn’t doing it alone—apparently, a few YouTuber friends knew what was up and helped him keep the secret.

Opening his big reveal video, Perry wore a giant panda mask, calling the transformation the “greatest social experiment of my entire life.” He said watching the internet speculate about his health felt like watching “ants on an ant farm,” basically implying how obsessed people get over online personalities without realizing they’re missing the bigger picture.

The panda mask was a metaphor, according to Perry. He wanted to show that the “world of social media is not as black-and-white as it appears.” It’s all just one big show, and he was controlling the narrative the entire time.

The Internet Was Fooled—Hard

“While everybody pointed and laughed at me for over-consuming food, I was in total control the entire time,” Perry said. He wanted to make a point about how people obsess over internet personalities and their lives. Sure, he was eating huge amounts of food on camera, but he was the one who held the power. The real over-consumption, he argued, was happening with the viewers who were glued to his content, not him.

After dropping this massive truth bomb, Perry went right back to his usual mukbang content. He ended the video by finishing a huge tray of spicy black bean noodles—classic Nikocado. But fans quickly noticed that parts of this new video had a familiar ring to them. He used some of the same lines from a monologue he uploaded back in 2022, in a video originally titled “The Best Burger I’ve Ever Had.” That video has since been retitled “Two Steps Ahead • Original, 2022,” as if to say, “I told you guys what was coming, you just didn’t see it.”

Perry revealed that the 2022 video was scripted as a hint to his audience about the secret weight loss journey he was about to start. But no one caught on. His viewers kept watching, completely unaware that he was pulling off one of the biggest internet pranks we’ve ever seen.

Playing the Long Game

Once he committed to the prank, Perry went all in. He continued posting old clips of himself looking significantly larger, never dropping any clues that he had lost so much weight. In fact, just days before revealing his transformation, he uploaded a video showing himself stepping on a scale and weighing 351 pounds.

He really took it to the next level when, three months ago, he posted a video claiming he had given up on his weight loss journey. The video had a black screen with him talking in the background, saying that after nearly two years, he’d seen “zero lasting results” from his efforts.

“Oh well, some people are fat. Get over it,” Perry said. “You think we’re plopped down on this Earth to just starve and count calories and restrict carbs? I’m over it; it doesn’t work. I keep trying; it doesn’t work. I have accepted that I’m fat. And I think most people just should, actually.”

That clip had fans convinced he’d thrown in the towel for good. To add to the deception, Perry uploaded a TikTok earlier this year, slurping noodles straight off a baking sheet and playing into his usual larger-than-life character. His most recent TikTok before the big reveal also showed him acting out his usual mukbang antics. Nobody suspected a thing.

Entering a New Era

Now, Perry is signaling a new chapter in his life. In a follow-up video shared on Friday on his second YouTube channel, he teased that this reveal was just the beginning of his “new era.” He’s even made fresh Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) accounts, where he posted some dramatic before-and-after photos over the weekend.

But Perry isn’t sure what’s next for him—or if his audience will still be around for it. In the follow-up video, he reflected on his years-long journey and wondered aloud if people even liked him anymore. “I don’t know if people want to hear from me or like my content at all. I actually just don’t even know,” he said.

Still, in classic Nikocado fashion, he ended his reflection by saying, “At the end of the day, if just one or two people show up to watch me eat, I’m happy.”

Love him or hate him, Nikocado Avocado just pulled off one of the wildest, most unexpected stunts in internet history—and now, everyone’s waiting to see what he does next.
